Amishville USA's History

Amishville USA was known for many years as the home place for much of the local Amish community. Many families were born and raised on the 120-acre farm. In the late 1960's the Amish family that resided on the farm decided to move out of state. The farm was then opened as an attraction to teach visitors about the Amish.  Although tours are no longer offered, the home still sits on the property and can be used as a back drop for lovely photos.

In southern Adams County the Amish use open buggies all year around. A cover is considered an unnecessary luxury. These buggies can be seen travelling throughout the county to this day.

At the same time the tours began, the Amishville campground was established in the woods and pastures on the property. In 1968 it offered only primitive camping. Through the years, this quiet, picturesque farm has been developed into a 300-site modern & primitive camping facility visited by thousands each year. Full hook-up to primitive sites are available.

In the early 1970's the Old Chicken House was remodeled and converted into a restaurant. This building is currently a 200 seat, fully-equipped restaurant.
